Orton-Gillingham

Orton-Gillingham (OG) is a structured, sequential, multisensory teaching method proven to help students who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling, or have a language-based learning differences (LBLD) like dyslexia. Our OG summer program is sponsored and taught by the faculty of the Hope Graham Program at Bancroft School, a comprehensive curricular and extracurricular program for students with LBLD/Dyslexia.

Orton-Gillingham w/Specialty Camp: I

Students will work in small groups for three hours each day sharpening their reading and writing skills. They’ll become word detectives, exploring phonemic awareness, decoding strategies, and engaging in fun literacy games that make learning interactive and exciting.

For the rest of the day, campers will enjoy specialty camp activities, with Week 1 focused on hands-on science exploration and Week 2 dedicated to creative art projects, giving students a perfect balance of learning and fun!

Orton-Gillingham w/Specialty Camp: II

Orton-Gillingham II: is an extension of OG I and is open exclusively to students who have completed OG I. This session is designed for campers ready to deepen and accelerate the skills introduced in the first program through a more immersive, focused experience.

Working in small groups for three hours each day, students will strengthen phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, and more advanced literacy concepts. With personalized instruction and intentional repetition, campers build greater automaticity, confidence, and mastery as they continue their structured literacy journey.

While campers spend half of their day building literacy skills, the other half is dedicated to specialty camp experiences. During Toy Inventors, students will design, build, and test their own creations, and in Nature Explorers, they’ll investigate ecosystems through hands-on outdoor STEAM activities — ensuring learning and fun go hand in hand all summer long.

Qualifications

In order to determine if our program is the right fit for your child, admission to our OG Summer Instruction program requires the submission of any Individual Education Program (IEP), 504 Accommodation Plan, Local Accommodation Plan, academic evaluation, and/or neuropsychological evaluation to be reviewed by our program director. Literacy

Emerging Readers w/Specialty Camp: Part I

Emerging Readers I is a 2 week program appropriate for students beginning their journey in reading. During this session, for 3 hours each day, students will solidify their knowledge of individual letter sounds, learn basic strategies to decode and encode words, learn beginner spelling rules for specific sounds, as well as be introduced and exposed to syllable types. Each lesson will include a phonemic awareness activity, reading of individual words, and oral reading. Literacy games will be used to keep students engaged and to practice the newly learned skills. At the end of this two week session, your child will gain skills to help them navigate the world of literacy.

For the rest of the day, campers will enjoy specialty camp activities, including hands-on science exploration ad creative art projects giving students a perfect balance of learning and fun!

Emerging Readers w/Specialty Camp: Part II

Emerging Readers Part II is now offered as a 2-week extension program designed exclusively for campers who have completed Emerging Readers I. This session provides the continued support and structured practice students need to build on the strong foundation established in Part I and keep their literacy growth moving forward.
During this two-week experience, students will spend 3 hours each day strengthening core reading skills while receiving the targeted reinforcement that helps boost both competence and confidence. Instruction will revisit and expand upon individual letter sounds, decoding and encoding strategies, and beginner spelling rules. Students will continue developing their understanding of syllable types and apply their skills through guided reading and writing practice.
Each lesson includes phonemic awareness activities, individual word reading, oral reading practice, and engaging literacy games that reinforce and deepen newly learned concepts. This intentional review and extension ensures that students solidify their learning from Emerging Readers I while taking meaningful next steps in their reading journey.

Foundations of Writing I

Rising Grades 6-9

In middle school, writing assignments across the curriculum get increasingly more challenging. Many middle school students need additional practice to master the grammar and language skills necessary to become effective and confident writers. Writing and Study Skill Fundamentals uses a multi-sensory approach to teach students how to write a variety of sentence types and incorporate appropriate vocabulary. Learn how to combine sentences, write detailed and interesting sentences, and begin to organize paragraphs. Study skills and executive function skill instruction is embedded within the writing curriculum. Topics include time management, organization, vocabulary development, webbing, and summarizing.

Campers grades 6-8 also have the opportunity to join our fun Day Camp activities following the class for an additional fee.

Foundations of Writing II

Rising Grades 6-10

Continuing to build upon the sentence and Brain Framing skills taught in the Foundations I camp, Foundations of Writing II is for those students who already have a solid understanding of sentence structure. Foundations II will focus on Brain Framing and composing a multiple paragraph expository essay on a topic of choice, including strategies to compose compelling and informative introduction and conclusion paragraphs, in addition to incorporating varied sentence starters and vocabulary to inform the reader while smoothly transitioning between paragraphs. Revising and editing skills will also be taught and reinforced through 1:1 writing conferences during the week. Foundations of Writing II is for students ready to take their writing to the next level!

Campers grades 6-8 also have the opportunity to join our fun Day Camp activities following the class for an additional fee.

Writing from the Soul

Rising Grades 6-10

It was a dark and stormy night… There is so much more to writing creatively than setting the scene with that particular phrase. During our week long Writing from the Soul camp, students will explore a variety of genres (poetry, memoirs, speeches, fairy tales, and narrative prompts) which will encourage them to dig a little deeper in the thought process while also engaging the senses and soul by writing and sharing their own literary pieces throughout the week. Students will leave the camp with a toolbox of writing strategies, ideas, and confidence to continue writing from the soul.

Campers grades 6-8 also have the opportunity to join our fun Day Camp activities following the class for an additional fee.

Mighty Mathematicians w/ Day Camp

Rising Grades 2-3

This is MORE than your average math class! Mighty Mathematicians is a 1 week program appropriate for campers looking to boost their math skills in a fun way! During this session, for 2 hours each day, campers will become detectives as they search for clues around the room, play hands-on math games where they get to be part of the game board and learn that math can be more than just a worksheet! Building upon skills learned in grades 1 & 2, your child will get the boost they need to help them navigate the next school year with confidence!

For the remainder of the day, students will participate in enriching day camp activities!

Welcome to Math Masters a two week program for kids in grades 4-6! For two hours each morning, this exciting program will help students level up their math skills in a fun, engaging way. Whether your child needs to boost their confidence or sharpen their problem-solving powers, Math Masters will guide them through key concepts like multiplication, division, fractions, and more. With interactive challenges, hands-on activities, and personalized instruction, each student will gain the tools they need to conquer math with mastery.
